This action research examined the effectiveness of SMART Board-supported instruction in enhancing student motivation and academic performance in Class IX Physics at Baylling Central School, Trashi Yangtse, Bhutan. The study used a mixed-methods action research design with 115 Class IX students. Quantitative data were collected through pre-test and post-test assessments and a 10-item Likert-type questionnaire, while qualitative data were gathered from semi-structured interviews with five students. The intervention involved teaching selected Physics topics using SMART Board-supported activities, including multimedia explanations, simulations, videos, interactive questioning, digital quizzes, Padlet, Mentimeter, and Nearpod. The findings showed a significant improvement in students’ academic performance after the intervention, with the post-test mean score (M = 18.30, SD = 2.28) higher than the pre-test mean score (M = 14.50, SD = 3.44), t(114) = 13.70, p < .001, Cohen’s d = 1.27. Survey results showed positive student perceptions, while interview findings indicated improved engagement, visualization, interaction, and understanding. The study concludes that purposeful SMART Board integration can enhance motivation and academic performance in Physics.
