Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-Assisted Technologies Policy

The Malaysian Online Journal of Educational Technology (MOJET) recognizes the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in educational research, digital learning environments, instructional design, learning analytics, and scholarly communication. The journal supports the responsible, transparent, and ethical use of these technologies in accordance with internationally accepted standards of research integrity and publication ethics.

Authors may use AI-assisted technologies to support certain aspects of the research and manuscript preparation process, including language editing, translation, coding assistance, data organization, visualization, content structuring, and other technical or administrative tasks. Any use of AI technologies must be clearly disclosed in the manuscript.

The disclosure should specify:

• The name of the AI tool or system used;
• The purpose for which the technology was employed;
• The stage(s) of the research, analysis, or manuscript preparation process in which the technology was utilized.

As a journal focusing on educational technology, MOJET welcomes research that investigates, develops, evaluates, or implements AI-based educational systems, intelligent tutoring systems, learning analytics platforms, adaptive learning environments, generative AI applications, and related technologies. In such cases, authors must clearly distinguish between AI as the subject of research and AI as a tool used to conduct the research or prepare the manuscript.

Authors must carefully review, verify, and take full responsibility for all content generated or assisted by AI technologies. AI-generated outputs may contain inaccuracies, biases, fabricated information, or inappropriate citations. Therefore, all AI-assisted content must be critically evaluated and validated by the authors prior to submission.

Artificial Intelligence systems, software agents, chatbots, and automated tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship requires intellectual contribution, accountability, ethical responsibility, and the ability to respond to questions regarding the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the work. These responsibilities can only be fulfilled by human authors.

Authors retain full responsibility for all submitted content, including text, analyses, interpretations, references, visual materials, software outputs, and research conclusions produced or modified with the assistance of AI technologies. The use of AI tools does not diminish or transfer the authors’ responsibility for the scholarly work.

The use of AI technologies to fabricate, falsify, manipulate, or misrepresent research data, learning analytics results, images, citations, references, participant information, or any other scholarly content constitutes a serious breach of publication ethics. Such misconduct may result in manuscript rejection, retraction of published articles, notification of relevant institutions, and other editorial actions deemed appropriate by the journal.

Reviewers and editors should not upload confidential manuscript content, peer review reports, or unpublished data to publicly accessible AI systems unless confidentiality and data protection can be fully ensured.

MOJET encourages innovation in educational technology while maintaining the highest standards of transparency, scientific rigor, and ethical responsibility. The Editorial Board reserves the right to request additional information, supporting documentation, or clarification regarding the use of AI-assisted technologies at any stage of the submission, review, or publication process.
