Cognitive Task Analysis of Experts in Designing Multimedia Learning Object Guideline (M-Log)

The purpose of this study was to design and develop a set of guidelines for multimedia learning objects to inform instructional designers (IDs) about the procedures involved in the process of content analysis. This study was motivated by the absence of standardized procedures in the beginning phase of the multimedia learning object design which is content analysis and the lack of awareness among IDs on steps to be followed during content analysis. The research design applied cognitive task analysis of experts via interview and the triangulation was done via content analysis. The findings are instructional design framework for IDs to follow and as a platform where IDs and SMEs collaboratively design the content for multimedia learning objects (M-LOG) to enhance the quality of multimedia learning objects.

Design of a Bahasa Melayu Grammar Online Learning Portal for Form Two Students Using Delphi Technique

This study was aimed at developing a Bahasa Melayu grammar learning portal for Form Two students (BMGLP). A developmental approach was used in this study. Needs analysis was carried out on the Bahasa Melayu teachers and Form Two students. The results of needs analysis on Form Two students showed that they preferred topics such as question answering techniques, and proverbs. The Delphi technique using consensus of experts in Bahasa Melayu was carried out in three rounds. The findings have resulted in successful development of a Bahasa Melayu Grammar Learning Portal for Form Two students. Hence it can be concluded that the BMGLP was successfully developed and can help students to acquire Bahasa Melayu grammar eficiently. Lastly, based on the findings, it is suggested that teachers and students use use web portal materials as supplementary resources to diversify their learning activities besides enriching their knowledge of Bahasa Melayu grammar.

Determinants of Social Networking Software Acceptance: A Multi-Theoretical Approach

Understanding reasons why students use social media has become a major preoccupation of researchers in recent time due to the rate of its adoption among the present generation of students. Some of the few study on social media phenomenon employed a single theory as a framework in order to understand the factors that influence the acceptance of it among the students. However, in this study, acceptance to use social network software was research into through a multi-theoretical approach. Factors from innovation diffusion theory, technology acceptance model, and social influence theory were used as a conceptual framework of this study. 500 undergraduate students participated in the study. Survey questionnaires were administered on the participants. Structural equation modeling was use to analyzed the data generated from the study. A model was developed from the study known as social network software acceptance model. The findings of the study showed the interaction that exists among factors from different theories as it influences student acceptance of SNS. From the findings of this study, theoretical as well as education implications were drawn. The study concludes that acceptance of SNS is a function of interrelated factors from different theories.

Evaluation on the Usability of Physics Module in a Secondary School in Malaysia: Students Retrospective

The main objective of this study is to implement and evaluate the Physics module based on technology and learning style using students’ retrospective evaluation. Physics has always been thought of as the most difficult subject as it involves abstract concepts. Research has shown that technology has the potential to increase understanding of abstract concepts. Previous research shows that matching learning style strategy with certain technology will be able to increase students learning experience. ICT which has potential to display learning experience in variety of format is seen as one way to fulfill diversity of learning styles. This study is based on the Felder Silverman Model (1988) which comprises four dimensions (visual/verbal, active/reflective, sequential/global, sensing/intuitive). The design and development of the Physics modules comprising technology tools, teaching technique, activities and advance exercise comes from the modified Delphi technique. The researchers employed 14 Physics students to test the Physics module which comprises two lessons on `gas law’. Following this, the students were interviewed to seek insight in order to evaluate the Physics module according to teachers’ retrospective evaluation of the modules. This paper will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the Physics module from the students’ retrospective evaluation. This paper will further discuss the implication of the research to practice. The modules help students to learn abstract Physics concepts according to technology and students’ learning style. Based on these findings, the researchers suggest that these Physics module which is based on technology and learning styles can be an effective teaching and learning instructional package.

Research and Trends in the Field of Technology-Enhanced Learning from 2006 to 2011: A Content Analysis of Quick Response Code (QR-code) and Its Application in Selected Studies

This study provides a content analysis of selected articles in the field of QR code and its application in educational context that were published in journals and proceedings of international conferences and workshops from 2006 to 2011. These articles were cross analysed by published years, journal, and research topics. Further analysis was carried out according to research settings, participants, research design types, research methods and findings. It was found from analysis that QR code technology cover a wide range of applications such as augmented reality game, science education, student assignment submission, library catalogue system, communication tools in large classroom environment, system for learning language, collaborative mapping and knowledge management environment, multimedia access tools, assessment tools and so forth. Although the technology covers a wide range of applications, the reported effectiveness of QR technology was not conclusive as most of the data were selfreported such as from questionnaire survey. Most of the studies involved short term research which would not be sufficient to address the complexity of technology integration in educational settings. Hence, it is suggested that future studies should consider offering more reliable and richer findings through longitudinal study and providing inter-observer and intra-observer agreement reliability.
